A collection of 10 death-affirming plays, sketches, and monologues that includes Silence, which the Miami Herald called “deeply moving,” author Henry Meyerson's Proceed to Checkout serves as the 2025-26 season-opening production at Bettendorf's Scott Community College's, the show's November 20 through 23 run also treating attendees to the short work Pop Goes the Weasel, which NYTheatre hailed as “a sharp, very original piece."

Meyerson’s publications with include the full-length plays Beware the Man Eating Chicken, Shtick, and The Secret Life of Seagulls, as well as the short-play collection Fresh Brewed: Tales from The Coffee Bar that Scott Community College staged in 2022. His other works include the one-act Tech Support, and Meyerson has had a dozen short stories published, some of which have been finalists in national writing contests. The author has a Ph.D in Psychology from the University of Houston and an MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College, and is a member of The Dramatists Guild, the African-American Playwrights Exchange, and Times Square Playwrights. In addition, he has taught creative writing at New Jersey City University.

In Proceed to Checkout, audiences will be treated to 10 short works: Dog Years; Comrades; The Suitcase; The Struggle; Lucky Man; Rehearsal; Pumps; The Fine Print; Silence; and Pop Goes the Weasel. Directing the show is SCC theatre instructor Kevin Babbitt, whose previous works for his department have included Never the Sinner, The Real Inspector Hound, Greater Tuna, and The Laramie Project. Babbitt's on-stage area-theatre appearances, meanwhile, include roles in the Richmond Hill Barn Theatre's Marjorie Prime, Over the River & Through the Woods, and Outside Mullingar, as well as the Playcrafters Barn Theatre's On Golden Pond and Tuesdays with Morrie. And 11 gifted student actors compose Babbitt's cast: Eli, DeZarn; Yorton Hagedorn; Chenoa Henderson; Olivia Hoft; MJ Kernan; Alyssa Knepel; Trent Kubasiak; Dustin Levsen; Perin McGrath; Alexander Shoemaker; and Alexis Willet.

Proceed to Checkout will be staged in Scott Community College's Black Box Theatre (in downstairs Room #1021 through Door 3) from November 20 through 23, with performances on Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Friday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door, and more information and tickets are available by visiting Cur8.com/18594/project/134781.
