Thursday, February 15, through Sunday, February 18
St. Ambrose University's Galvin Fine Arts Center Studio Theatre, 2101 North Gaines Street, Davenport IA
One of Amerian theatre's most acclaimed and awarded titles will enjoy an intimate yet emotionally grand staging when St. Ambrose University and director Sam Jones present the stage classic A View from the Bridge, Arthur Miller's Tony-winning family drama that runs in the Studio Theatre February 15 through 18.
A longshoreman by trade, A View from the Bridge's Italian-American protagonist Eddie Carbone is confident of his place in the working-class Brooklyn neighborhood he calls home. Eddie's life irrevocably changes, however, when he agrees to provide harbor for his immigrant cousins. A love affair consequently exposes a dark family secret, and suspicion, jealousy, and betrayal inevitably follow in this passionate drama by one of America’s greatest playwrights.
First staged on Broadway in 1955 as a one-act verse drama, Miller's subsequent two-act version of A View from the Bridge has been the benificiary of numerous Tony Awards for its many revivals: the 1998 production earned Tonys for Best Revival and Best Leading Actor Anthony LaPaglia; the 2015 presentation won Tonys for Revival, Direction, and Lighting; and 2010's rendition received Best Featured Actress recognition for Scarlett Johansson's performance as Eddie's niece Catherine.
Jones, who is in his final year of studies at St. Ambrose, has been a frequent on-stage presence in such SAU shows as Richard III, Parade, and Glengarry Glen Ross, and is directing A View from the Bridge with set and costumes provided by resident designers Kris Eithreim and Dianne Dye. Genesius Guild and Prenzie Players veteran Bryan Woods portrays Eddie, Picasso at the Lapin Agile's Megan Clarke plays Catherine, and the ensemble also includes Christian Colmeneras (Mike), Anthony Ducket (Louis), Sarah Goodall (Beatrice), T.J. Green (Alfieri), Tyler Hughes (Rodolpho), and Brian Leibforth (Marco),
A View from the Bridge will be performed Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m., tickets are $6, and more information and reservations are available by calling (563)333-6251 or visiting SAU.edu/theatre.
