What: Every student at every school in the Quad Cities is challenged to attend school on September 13. We’re trying to beat last year’s Quad Cities-wide attendance rate of 96.1% on Challenge 5 Day.

Who: All school superintendents are joining together in the effort to encourage all students to “Strive for Less than 5” absences this school year.

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 26th annual national food drive on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the country's largest single-day food drive, provides residents with an easy way to donate food to those in need. The local goal is to collect 100,000 meals.

Quad Cities school districts have seen a small decline in the number of students who have been absent for too many days of the school year. National-level research has found that students who miss even just 9 days of the school year have lower grades and score lower on standardized tests.

Quad Cities residents with a household income of $57,000 or less are eligible for free tax preparation services offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program of United Way of the Quad Cities Area at 14 different sites. IRS-certified trained volunteers will prepare taxes at no cost.

On Giving Tuesday (November 28), United Way of the Quad Cities Area collected monetary donations and items. Because of the generosity of the Quad Cities, items were distributed on Monday, December 11, 2017.

United Way of the Quad Cities Area is pleased to host celebrity Chef Carlos Gaytan at the sold-out fundraiser for Women United’s Born Learning initiative. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. at Crow Valley Golf Club, Davenport.

United Way of the Quad Cities Area will host Day of Caring on Thursday, September 21, 2017, when 1,600 volunteers will participate in more than 90 projects throughout the Quad Cities.
