MUSCATINE, IOWA (April 21, 2022) — The Muscatine Art Center is happy to announce the upcoming performance of Brinton Surprise, a Red Cedar Chamber Music production, on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 3PM. The free performance will take place in the Muscatine Art Center’s Music Room.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (March 28, 2022) — The Muscatine Art Center will offer two programs on the historic Japanese Garden this spring. The first, set for Thursday, April 7, 5:30PM, is an informational session on the rehabilitation of the garden. Director Melanie Alexander will speak about the decision-making process, the scope of the project, the roles of those involved in the project, and the project’s funding sources.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (November 29, 2021) — In 2020, the Muscatine Public Art Advisory Commission announced a Request for Qualifications, seeking artists to prepare concepts for public art in the roundabout at Mulberry and Second. Seventeen artists from Iowa and throughout the United States responded to the RFQ.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (November 8, 2021) — Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO Bricks, an award-winning and record-breaking exhibition that uses beautiful works of art made from simple toy blocks is coming to the Muscatine Art Center. The exhibition runs from November 16, 2021, through February 20, 2022, and explores animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and humankind’s relationship with nature.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (August 30, 2021) — A new series of works by Iowa artist Rose Frantzen will be on view at the Muscatine Art Center from September 2 through October 31, 2021. Frantzen was born, raised, and returned to Maquoketa, Iowa, where the rural lifestyle and landscape continue to provide inspiration for her paintings.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (August 16, 2021) — For those who regularly drive on Mulberry Avenue, monitoring progress of the sculpture installation and landscape project at the Muscatine Art Center has become a minor pastime this summer.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (June 21, 2021) — Visitors to the Muscatine Art Center have plenty to take in. Between the exhibitions in the Stanley Gallery, the period rooms in the historic house, and the changing galleries on the second floor of the house, an array of artwork is presented. Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray and Alterations: Tailored Solutions to Climate Change, on view this summer, have been previously highlighted.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (June 9, 2021) In December 2020, the Public Art Advisory Commission for the City of Muscatine announced two new public art projects — murals for retaining walls on Houser Street and concept design proposals for the area near the roundabout at Mulberry Avenue and Second Street.
