The Moline Commercial Club hosted a private dinner party televised and taped by NIPPON TV and Channel 4 news on September 26th. 2011.  The menu was designed to highlight the delicious and healthy wild harvested Carp from the Illinois rivers.

The aim of  the dinner and the televised  taping was to highlight the upward potential of  American business as well as the creation of  jobs by increasing wild harvested fish from our waterways. To this purpose the dinner was arranged to serve a variety of  dishes for those who had never eaten  ' the  fish called carp' . The dinner was a huge success.  Chef Linda of the Moline Commercial Club prepared Stuffed Green Peppers, Lasagna, and Chili. The Chili was cooked in front of  the newscasters and reporters. All items were made with carp. Desserts were chocolate mousse and whipped cream on philo dough cups with fresh raspberry on top; and  chocolate, vanilla and raspberry cheesecake squares.

The advantages of  the carp is that the fish is NOT a bottom-feeder. It is healthy, and very easily digestible over some of the other fish and meat, and is low calorie, and tasteful: it actually absorbs the flavors of  the spices since it does not have its own taste. It is not a greasy fish. The carp has a blood line, which makes its consistency similar to hamburger meat or turkey, or chicken and it does not disintegrate in prepared dishes. It maintains a nice texture and consistency. It is substantial and is not flaky. Because it eats only plankton, it is a light and airy fish and stays on top. The comments were: we ate a lot of  food, but we do not feel heavy. Additionally, it is economical at half  to a third of  the price of  meat and most other fish.

In attendance at the dinner were the congressional office of Congressman Schilling and various members of The Moline Commercial Club.

The Moline Commercial Club is  looking to achieve three short term and long term goals:

1)      Remove the excess carp from the Illinois waterways, while still maintaining sustainability so the species are not endangered.

2)      Freeze and ship the wild harvest to countries overseas as well as the American market: both North and South America. An ideal conservative short term goal is 4 containers of  40,000 pounds per week.

3)      Make it available to the American families through awareness of  health advantages of  the carp, cooking techniques, and economics of  wild natural harvest, cost per family for a full meal as well as availability in local super markets and grocery stores.

Prepared dishes as well as smoked, raw mince and fillet can be purchased from The Moline Commercial Club.

Ready menus are:  Stuffed green peppers,  chili, lasagna, fillet with pasta with alfredo or tomato base sauce, fish balls, fish patties, and fish cakes.

Please contact 309-762-8547 to place your orders.  Email: molineclub@sbcglobal.net Additionally, raw uncooked fish may be purchased through the same number or email.

During our summer break we are working on getting the Go Loopy bus completed and ready for tours to the Artist's studios, so collectors can buy directly from the Artists as well as to Art Galleries in the towns and cities along the Mississippi where the river flows west, i.e from Muscatine to LeClaire on the Iowa side and Illinois City and Port Byron in the Illinois side. Of course we will need to adjust to restrict ourselves to where there are art galleries and artists who have studios which they want to open up to collectors.
This Go Loopy bus is a joint project between The Institute and Johannes Bus Services. 7 area Artists are painting a yellow school bus, no longer yellow, to be converted to an Art Bus for an Art Open tour.  The art work on the bus flows beautifully. It is the only example of a moveable art installation in our area thus far. I trust there will be more that will follow.

More news and details of the Art Open tour will be circulated as the art venues firm up.  The bus is almost done, getting clear coated this week.
We will post the photos on our website and also, physically, at the Institute itself, so you can see hard copies of the photos of the art work, as well as about the artists.
The other part of our summer is the continuing work on the Herb and Spice food plate. At the beginning of  the new semester we will be circulating what we have completed for open commentary.
We are looking to resume our Independent Scholars' Evenings on September 1st. 2011. The first Thursday of the month.  We will be resuming earlier since supporters are requesting and missing the evenings.

Continued evening on "Propaganda" focusing on the 4 Part BBC series

"The Century of the Self"

Part I: Happiness Machines

Where once the political process was about engaging people's rational, conscious minds, as well as facilitating their needs as a society, the documentary shows how by employing the tactics of psychoanalysis, politicians appeal to irrational, primitive impulses that have little apparent bearing on issues outside of the narrow self-interest of a consumer population.

"Propaganda"

What is Propaganda?

How does it influence us?

What is the Truth? What is a Lie?

In this evening, we will discuss how difficult it is to discern truth from lie when special interests dominate society's opinions.

We will investigate ways on how to recognize the face of propaganda and how to navigate through it.

Michael Grady

Michael Grady has been an Independent Scholar since 2003, having given or facilitated presentations on diverse subjects such as love, fertility, marriage, German culture, aging, alternative physics, alternative psychology, alternative biology, alternative spirituality and holistic healing.

He is the inventor of a water curing kit that he claims can cure many diseases while dramatically reducing the effects of aging, even with a regular diet. Grady refers to himself as a "Thalasopher" in response to his discoveries of the many miracles that can be found in cured water. From 2007 to 2010, Grady operated the nation's first water healing balneotherapy spa, called "Atlantispa", in Davenport. Grady continues to maintain that there is nearly no disease that cured water alone cannot heal.

Grady has lived in five countries, and is married to his Indonesian-born wife of 26 years, Lina, who is an Independent Scholar in classical Chinese Feng Shui. He grew up in Quincy, Illinois and after many years, returned to the river from where he came. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
