Ascentra Credit Union is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year for their annual scholarship competition.  A total of $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded to ten of their members to help offset the costs of attending a college or university. Scholarships will be awarded as follows:

·         Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school students planning to enter college

·         Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to nontraditional students age 19 or over planning to attend higher education

Ascentra is committed to supporting education initiatives in the community and has given out a total of $63,000 in scholarships to date.  What is unique about Ascentra’s scholarship program is that members can apply every year they are enrolled as a student.

“It is no secret that the cost of attending a college or university is on the rise and student loan debt is reaching an all-time high,” said Ascentra’s Chief Marketing Officer Jennifer Naeve.  “We are proud to offer this program to our members to further their educational goals.”

All applicants are judged on their essay, resume, awards, extracurricular activities, volunteer services, and work experience.  This year’s 500-word essay question is,“Who in your life has been your biggest influence on finances and why?”

Deadline for the Ascentra Scholarship Competition is March 2, 2019.  Applications and official rules may be picked up at any of Ascentra’s branches, or found online at ascentra.org/scholarships.  On their website, members can also find additional information on other scholarship opportunities.
