PELLA, IOWA (April 21, 2023) — Central College psychology faculty traveled with nineteen Central students and recent alumni who will present research at the 95th Annual Midwestern Psychological Association, April 20-22, in Chicago, Illinois.

Faculty involved with the research and traveling with the students are Shelby Messerschmitt-Coen, assistant professor of psychology and 2015 Central graduate; Keith Jones and Mark and Kay De Cook Endowed Chair in Character and Leadership Development, and professor of psychology, Randall Renstrom, associate professor of psychology; and Ashley Scolaro, associate professor of psychology.

Jones will receive the 2023 Midwest Psychological Association Excellence in Mentoring Award, which recognizes an outstanding mentor who provides guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing the knowledge, professional skills, competencies, and character of others.

Luke Henkhaus, from Geneseo, Illinois, presented research entitled “The Relationship Between Government Trust, Political Ideology, and Conspiracy Theory Belief.”

Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, four-year liberal-arts college. Central is known for its academic rigor and leadership formation and for cultivating diversity of thought and culture through the arts and sciences, professional fields of study, and experiential learning.
