Christian Care, a shelter for men experiencing homelessness in downtown Rock Island, was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from The Amy Helpenstell Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.  This important award provides valuable support of key programs and services at Christian Care that help those struggling with homelessness and poverty in our community.

The Amy Helpenstell Foundation Fund awards grants in the local community in memory of Amy E. Helpenstell (1970- 2003), with a key focus on areas that address community development, arts and culture, education, health, and youth development.  Amy was passionate about making a difference in the Quad Cities, and her foundation continues to provide valuable resources 15 years after her passing.  Christian Care is honored to have the partnership of the Amy Helpenstell Foundation supporting our mission.

Since 1916, Christian Care has provided safe shelter, food, clothing and other supportive services to men experiencing homelessness in our community and is the only homeless men’s shelter in the Illinois Quad Cities.  The mission of Christian Care is to empower the homeless to make positive changes in every aspect of their lives.
