DAVENPORT, IOWA (October 18, 2021) — Friendly House participates in the federally-funded Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) by offering services to registered home child-care providers. Providers in Scott County can receive reimbursement for nutritious meals and snacks provided to children in their care.  Children cannot be charged an additional fee for any food served in these programs.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (August 8, 2019) — People are in need in the Quad Cities. According to the River Bend Food Bank, 1 in 8 people in the local community don’t have access to enough food. And according to a June 2018 QC Times article, 38% of Scott County residents can’t afford basic needs, including medical care.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (June 24, 2019) — In 2018, it was reported that approximately 550 people were experiencing homelessness each night in the Quad Cities. Christian Care, similar to other shelters, works hard to provide adequate shelter, but also consistently sees more people in need of help. In response to this problem, Christian Care is adding a new dorm to their facility which will include 6 new beds for homeless men in the community.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (June 6, 2019) — Summer can be a harsh time in the Quad Cities for many in our community. As the temperature and heat-indices rise, many members of our community struggle to stay cool. Christian Care is dedicated to helping those who are less-fortunate by opening its doors as an Emergency Cooling Center when temperatures are 90 degrees and above (including heat index). Those needing assistance are welcome between the hours of 8AM-7PM, seven days a week.

Christian Care, a shelter for men experiencing homelessness in downtown Rock Island, was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from The Amy Helpenstell Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.  This important award provides valuable support of key programs and services at Christian Care that help those struggling with homelessness and poverty in our community.
