WASHINGTON DC (May 17, 2019) — Today, Co-Chairs of the Congressional Aluminum Caucus, Representatives Dave Loebsack (D-IA-02), Larry Bucshon MD (R-IN-08), Suzan DelBene (D-WA-01), and Bill Johnson (R-OH-06), applaud the removal of the Section 232 aluminum tariffs that have caused unintended consequences for the domestic-aluminum industry. The Aluminum Caucus has worked tirelessly in seeking the removal of the tariffs, without quotas, on Canada and Mexico since their implementation. It is a good day for the thousands of American workers in the aluminum industry.

“It is past time that the tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum imported from Canada and Mexico, which have caused harm to Iowa’s farmers and manufacturers, have been stopped. Now that this barrier has been removed, it is time we refocus on stopping China’s unfair practices of dumping steel and aluminum in our country.” — Rep Dave Loebsack

“I am thrilled with the Administration’s decision to remove the Section 232 aluminum tariffs, without quotas, from our responsible trading partners Canada and Mexico. We can take a targeted approach on China, the true culprit of unfair trade-practices harming the industry. We must work with our allies to address Chinese over-capacity and protect American Jobs and the integrated-aluminum supply-chain.”  — Dr Larry Bucshon

“I am pleased the administration has reached a deal to end these disruptive tariffs on steel and aluminum with Canada and Mexico, two of our closest allies and trading partners. Moving forward, I hope the administration will work with Canada, Mexico, and our other close allies to address the real source of our trade problems, which is over-capacity from China. I now look forward to Canada and Mexico ending their retaliatory tariffs, which are hurting the hardworking farmers and small businesses of Washington state and the nation.” — Rep Suzan DelBene

“The announcement today is a positive step forward for the aluminum industry. I look forward to continue working with this Administration to address Chinese over-capacity issues, as well as helping to bring the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement [USMCA] across the finish line.” — Rep Bill Johnson
