WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (May 27, 2026) — Des Moines University (DMU) Medicine and Health Sciences and Merrimack College, a private college in North Andover, Massachusetts, have entered into a new partnership that expands pathways for Merrimack students pursuing careers in the health sciences.

Through this agreement, qualified Merrimack undergraduate students and graduate students in biology and applied chemistry will receive preferred access to apply to, interview for and, in some cases, secure reserved seats in select DMU graduate and doctoral programs.

"This partnership brings together two institutions grounded in purpose and driven by opportunity," says Kimberly Brown PhD MEd, vice president for academic and student affairs at DMU.

"By working together, we're expanding pathways for students and creating academic experiences that are responsive and designed to meet the needs of today's learners."

As part of the partnership, DMU has committed to setting aside a fixed number of reserved seats each year for Merrimack students who meet all academic and admissions requirements.

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine: Two seats per year
  • Doctor of Occupational Therapy: Two seats per year

For other programs, qualified Merrimack students who meet defined academic and admissions criteria are guaranteed an interview, space permitting, providing an early and direct opportunity to engage with DMU's admissions process.

These programs include:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences

"Merrimack College's partnership with Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences advances our mission to create meaningful pathways for students pursuing careers in the health sciences," says John "Sean" Condon, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

"This opportunity reflects the college's commitment to supporting high-achieving students while strengthening a collaborative partnership grounded in shared academic values and mission."

This agreement reflects Merrimack's mission to enlighten minds, engage hearts, and empower lives.

Likewise, DMU's mission to improve lives by educating compassionate health professionals complements this collaboration, creating meaningful academic and professional opportunities for students preparing to serve in a diverse global society.
