EAST MOLINE, ILLINOIS (January 7, 2020) — On Sunday, January 26, at 4PM, Churches United of the Quad City Area will celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by hosting an ecumenical service at First Presbyterian — East Moline, 777 25th Ave, East Moline. This event is free and open to the public. Major Jolinda Shelbourn will be speaking. Pastor Becky Sherwood, Reverend Donald Johnson, Minister Jay McGowan, and Rev Dr Melvin Grimes will also be participating.

The theme of this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness.” Churches of all faiths are called to unite prayerfully for Christian Unity and respond to Jesus’s prayer “that they all may be one.”

Churches United of the Quad City Area began in 1961 and our mission is to serve the community, revitalize the Church, and celebrate Christian unity. Today, more than 140 churches are represented by Churches United. We operate free hot-meal sites, 25 emergency food pantries, a domestic violence shelter for women and children, and a resale shop to help fund the shelter. We dispense financial assistance to those who need help paying bills through our CareLINK program. We distribute over 2.1 million pounds of food annually, serving 140,000 individuals. Our meal sites serve 21,000 meals a year.
