BETTENDORF, IOWA (May 20, 2025) — Edison Academy, an alternative high school program serving students from Bettendorf, North Scott, and Pleasant Valley High Schools, will host a special dedication ceremony to seal a time capsule commemorating its inaugural year at its new location. The event will take place Wednesday, May 21, 12PM, at Edison Academy, 3066 Victoria St, Bettendorf. Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the occasion.

In celebration of a milestone year, every student, teacher, and staff member will contribute to the time capsule by placing a sealed envelope filled with personal writings, photos, and mementos that reflect their experiences from the 2024–25 school year.

Additionally, the capsule will include:

  • The 2024–25 Edison Academy Yearbook
  • A book of 2025 Senior Pictures and Quotes
  • A collection of anonymous “Dear Diary” entries authored by students

This project was envisioned by Edison teacher and project coordinator Shawn Rice, who is also retiring this year.

"I wanted to celebrate our first year in the new building and mark my retirement by reflecting on cherished memories and looking ahead to the future," said Rice.

The time capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2050, serving as a tribute to the growth of Edison Academy, its students, and the broader community.

The initiative was made possible through support from the Iowa Association of Alternative Education (IAAE).
