CLIVE, IOWA (November 25, 2025) Community leaders, state legislators, city council members, Fareway Stores and the Iowa Pork Producers Association will gather at Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS) on Tuesday, December 2 for the ninth annual Giving Tuesday event, titled “Flipping for Good”. The event will bring Des Moines area leaders together to prepare and serve hearty meals to adults experiencing homelessness. Meals will also be provided at the Bridge Home in Ames and the Empowerment Command Center in Grinnell.

The event will be held at the following locations:

·        Central Iowa Shelter and Services, 1420 Mulberry, Des Moines

·        The Bridge Home, 110 Sherman Avenue, Ames

·        Empowerment Command Center, Grinnell

The Ames and Grinnell locations will not have an official program. Meals will be given out to adults experiencing homelessness in those locations beginning at 6:30AM.

Local leaders, several members of the Fareway Stores team, and representatives from the Iowa Pork Producers Association join Central Iowa Shelter and Services to prepare and serve meals at and speak.

Food insecurity and homelessness remain real challenges for far too many of our neighbors. Giving Tuesday, held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, serves as a powerful reminder that we can all make a difference. It’s a day that encourages individuals, families, and organizations to rally behind the causes they believe in, sparking generosity at a time when it’s needed most.

Beyond inspiring giving, Giving Tuesday elevates the work of nonprofits and community groups by highlighting their missions, sharing their stories, and bringing attention to both the obstacles they face and the impact they create. It’s a moment to recognize the people working every day to strengthen our communities, and to join them in that effort.

CISS expects to serve approximately 300 individuals staying at the shelter in Des Moines, 100 in Ames, and fifty in Grinnell. Fareway’s donations include:

·        1,200 slices of bacon

·        50 lbs of sausage patties

·        132 lbs of eggs

·        1,050 pancakes

·        48 packages of hashbrowns

·        85 loaves of cinnamon raisin bread

·        200 lbs of oranges

·        200 lbs of apples

·        12 cans of coffee

·        750 packets of hot cocoa

·        500 individual servings of orange juice

·        500 individual servings of milk

·        500 bottled waters

Excess food will be donated.
