DES MOINES, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual Iowa State Fair Straw Poll is back for 2022 and will allow fairgoers to vote for their preferred candidate in the Governor, US Senate, and US House races. The poll will be conducted on iPads at the Secretary’s booth located inside the Varied Industries Building during the Iowa State Fair from August 11-21.

All fairgoers, candidates, and campaigns are invited to visit the booth to cast their vote.

“I’m inviting every fairgoer to participate in the State Fair Straw Poll,” said Sec Pate. “It’s a fun way to prepare Iowans ahead of the 2022 general election to see which candidates they prefer. Visiting the fair is also a great opportunity for Iowans to enjoy the butter cow, eat some Brown-Sugar Pork Belly on a Stick, and swing by our booth in the Varied Industries Building to register to vote.”

Real-time results will be found on the iPads throughout the fair and those following along at home can do so by visiting sos.iowa.gov/strawpoll. The straw poll is intended for entertainment purposes only.

The Iowa League of Heroes will be visiting Secretary Pate’s State Fair booth on Saturday, August 13, 2-4PM. They will be posing for pictures and encouraging eligible Iowans to register to vote. Special #BeAVoter trading cards featuring the League of Heroes will also be available.

Once again, Sec Pate will continue his partnership with Iowa’s Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) to help entrepreneurs reach valuable resources to grow their business. Representatives from SBDC will be on hand in his booth throughout the fair.

“We are excited to partner with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office again this year to bring information to Iowa’s businesses,” said Lisa Shimkat, State Director for the SBDC. “America’s Small Business Development Centers Iowa will have staff available to answer questions that Iowa’s businesses and entrepreneurs may have. Bringing the resources to the public is a key focus of this partnership and we appreciate the opportunity to be available at the Iowa State Fair.”

Sec Pate’s booth, number 273, is located in the northwest section of the Varied Industries Building and will be open 9AM–8PM throughout the duration of the Iowa State Fair.
