Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate Encourages Iowans to Become Election Poll-Workers

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 25, 2022) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging civic-minded Iowans to assist voters in the 2022 elections by becoming poll workers. Tuesday, January 25 is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Iowa deploys around 10,000 poll workers for each statewide election.

Poll workers are a crucial component of Iowa’s elections. They check-in voters, make sure they have the correct ballot, answer questions, and help ensure elections run smoothly in each precinct. They’re needed in all 99 counties for the June 7 primary and November 8 general election.

“You’ll be serving your state and nation, and you’ll get paid for it,” Sec Pate said. “We cannot administer elections in Iowa without the help of our friends and neighbors at the polls. This is your chance to be a hero right in your community by helping your fellow Iowans vote.”

The US Election Assistance Commission established National Poll Worker Recruitment Day in 2022 with the goal of encouraging citizens to sign up to help America vote.
