JOHNSTON, IOWA (March 12, 2018) - Four Iowa high school students received the 2018 Iowa Bankers Association's Student Athlete Achievement Award during the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament on March 9 in Des Moines. One student from each class received a $1,000 scholarship from the Iowa Bankers Association to the college of his choice. Scholarship recipients included: * Class 1A: Kyle Barnes, Saint Albert Catholic High School, Council Bluffs * Class 2A: Steven Van Meeteren, Sheldon High School, Sheldon * Class 3A: Jordan Magnani, Mt. Pleasant Community High School, Mount Pleasant * Class 4A: Joshua Hutton, Muscatine High School, Muscatine Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement. "It is important to do all that we can to support the long-term success of Iowa's youth through programs like this. These students are the future of our communities, and they are deserving of this recognition for their hard work and commitment.  Helping Iowans reach their financial goals is what Iowa banks are all about," said John Sorensen, president and CEO of the Iowa Bankers Association. "We appreciate the opportunity to provide this scholarship program in partnership with the Iowa High School Athletic Association." For more than two decades, the Iowa Bankers Association has sponsored the Student Athlete Achievement Scholarship Awards program in partnership with the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association. The program includes awards to student athletes in basketball, wrestling and football.
