DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 6, 2019) — Please mark your calendars and share with your audiences that Mayor Frank Klipsch will deliver the Davenport State of the City Address on Monday, February 25, 2019, at the Rhythm City Casino, 7077 Elmore Avenue. As you know, the Davenport State of the City address is an annual presentation by the Mayor of Davenport. It is a great opportunity to review the accomplishments of the past year, outline the roadmap of long and short term goals for the future, while bringing together community organizations, government officials, citizens, and businesses to promote and celebrate citywide and regional collaboration and success.

Registration and check-in begin at 11:30AM. A buffet lunch with a vegetarian option is being served starting at 11:30AM. Interested individuals can register by clicking here. The program will begin promptly at 12PM. New this year, a complimentary viewing-area is available for those who would like to attend only the meeting and do not wish to have the lunch. This event is open to the public. To ensure adequate seating, advanced-registration is required for both the lunch registration and the public-viewing area. Lunch is $25 per person, and the public viewing area is free. Next, please know that applications are currently being accepted for the Spring session of Davenport U.  Davenport U is a nine-week program aimed at connecting citizens to their local government. As a member of the media, rest assured this program could be for you, too! The Monday sessions, from 6PM-8:30PM, will start with an introduction to City government on March 25 and conclude with graduation at the May 22 City Council meeting. In between, participants will learn the basics of city government as well as it more intricacies like site-selection, community-policing, and budget planning. Enrollment is limited and participants must be 18 years of age or older. Attendance to all nine sessions is highly encouraged. If interested, individuals can emaildavenportu@ci.davenport.ia.us or call Tiffany Thorndike at 563 888-2066. Finally, let me wrap things up with a little weather news. Public Works advises that solid waste collection will occur as scheduled today, however, will begin a little later than usual. Also, all three of the City’s Libraries will open late, at 11AM, this morning. CitiBus is operating on schedule.

Another brief chance for freezing rain will occur around 9PM this evening, Wednesday, February 6. Stay tuned for more weather alerts in the coming days as temperatures are expected to take another dive on Friday.
