AMES, IA (April 7, 2017) - Live Healthy Iowa will partner with 19 communities across Iowa for the 4th annual Live Healthy Iowa 5K events. The events, scheduled for Saturday, April 8, will be held in Bondurant, Britt, Carroll, Decorah, DeWitt, Dike, Fairfield, Grinnell, Hiawatha, Montrose, Onawa, Osage, Perry, Red Oak, Sibley, Sioux City, Spencer, Story City, and Waukee. The Live Healthy Iowa 5K is sponsored by the Iowa Hawkeyes.  The Live Healthy Iowa 5K events were created in 2014 as an opportunity to connect with Iowans locally, to support community wellness efforts and to celebrate completion of the annual 10 Week Wellness Challenge. The inaugural year featured 10 Iowa communities, while in 2016, 16 communities partnered to offer a local race event. Live Healthy Iowa hopes to continue building these community partnerships, giving Iowans the opportunity to easily attend and participate in a Live Healthy Iowa 5K event. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with these 19 local communities and co-host these events," said Iowa Sports Foundation CEO, Chuck Long. "These events not only serve as a time of celebration for challenge participants, but as a way for Iowans to come together in support of healthy communities."  Statewide registration has already surpassed 1,500 entries and the excellent forecast is encouraging for event day sign-ups. The 5K portion of the event will begin at 8:00 am with the 1K kid's run following at 9:00 am. On-site registration will be available at all locations. The cost for the 5K is $25 and 1K kid's run is $5. For local event details, visit www.livehealthyiowa5k.org and select the community name. Proceeds from the events will benefit local wellness efforts in these communities, as well as Live Healthy Iowa Kids initiatives. -30- About Live Healthy Iowa Live Healthy Iowa, formerly Lighten Up Iowa, was created in 2001 by the Iowa Sports Foundation as a strategic health initiative to address the state's growing obesity problem.
