Local horticulturalist, Kate Mapes of the Quad City Botanical Center, has been selected as one of Greenhouse Products Magazine's Top 40 Horticulturalists Under 40.  This is a national honor, and Mrs. Mapes was selected from a pool of 1000's of candidates.  Kate's official role at the QC Botanical Center is officially "team support".  Many days, her title could not ring more true.  Kate has a hand in nearly everything that guests can experience while at the Center. Kate began working at the center in 2007 on a part-time basis, helping out in any way that she could until she joined the team full-time in 2014.  Kate grew up on a dairy farm in rural Port Byron, and love of the outdoors has been strong in her family for generations.   She has a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from UW-Platteville.  Before joining the Botanical Center, Kate spent time working on the "living with the land" ride at Walt Disney World. She currently resides in Davenport with her husband, Steve and her 2 dogs Satchmo and Harvey.

When Kate was notified of her selection to this group, she said, " I could not be more humbled to be selected for this great honor.  I was very surprised to hear the news and I am so excited to be included with my industry peers who share this with me."

At the QC Botanical Center, the mission is to bring people and plants together in fun and meaningful ways.  Each day, we go about our jobs with that on the forefront of our minds.  If you want to come see Kate, you can find her here almost any day of the week.  If you are interested in volunteering and working alongside a world-class horticulturalist, stop by and see us!
