Central is only one of two colleges in Iowa to receive National Strength and Conditioning Association's Education Recognition

PELLA, IOWA (February 17, 2022) — Central College's personal training program, part of the kinesiology major, has been approved by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA)'s Education Recognition Program.

In pursuing and achieving NSCA recognition through the ERP, Central's program has demonstrated its commitment to quality and meets the requirements to prepare students for NSCA exams in becoming certified personal trainers and strength and conditioning specialists. This test is the gold standard in the field and enhances a student's credentials when seeking job opportunities.

"This designation formalizes what we have known all along: that Central's kinesiology department provides students with significant professional skills on top of a bedrock foundation of the liberal arts," says Brian Peterson, Central's associate dean of curriculum and faculty development. "Our students leave this program well-prepared for their next step."

Central is only one of two colleges in Iowa to receive this recognition specifically for personal training. The other college is the University of Dubuque.

The recognition provides students access to grants, scholarships, and internships, while also offering discounts on exams and conferences. Through the partnership with NSCA, Central students also have access to professional development and networking opportunities.

The NSCA is a nonprofit association dedicated to advancing strength and conditioning and related sport science professions around the world. It exists to empower a community of professionals to maximize their impact through disseminating evidence-based knowledge and its practical application by offering industry-leading certifications, research journals, career-development services, networking opportunities, and continuing education.

The NSCA community is composed of more than 60,000 members and certified professionals throughout the world who further industry standards as researchers, educators, strength and conditioning coaches, performance and sport scientists, personal trainers, tactical professionals, and other related roles.

The recognition is valid for three years.

Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, four-year liberal-arts college. Central is known for its academic rigor and leadership formation and for cultivating diversity of thought and culture through the arts and sciences, professional fields of study, and experiential learning.
