Campus organizers across Iowa will register and engage young voters in advance of 2019 and 2020 elections

AMES, IOWA (August 26, 2019) — On August 28, NextGen Iowa will register new and returning UNI students to vote as they arrive to campus for the fall semester. From GOP inaction on gun violence and climate change to the racist and violent rhetoric coming out of the White House, young voters are poised to play an outsize role in the outcome of November 2020. NextGen Iowa is hard at work engaging young people across the state about what is at stake in 2020.

In 2018, NextGen Iowa registered 14,243 young voters, collected 21,668 pledges to vote, and knocked on 63,270 doors. Young Iowans flexed their progressive power by electing three Democrats to the US House of Representatives, including Iowa’s first female Representatives in the House. NextGen Iowa is already gearing up to unseat Joni Ernst and flip the Senate next November in order to achieve lasting progressive change.
