CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (July 4, 2019) — On July 6, 12-4PM, NextGen Iowa will support LGBTQIA+ Iowans, register young voters, and recruit volunteers at Cedar Rapids PrideFest at Newbo City Market (1100 3rd St SE). Over the past month, NextGen Iowa has attended Sioux City Pride, Des Moines Pride, Iowa City Pride, and Quad Cities Pride where organizers collected over 1,500 petitions urging Senator Joni Ernst, who is up for re-election in 2020, to support the historic Equality Act and committed over 1,000 young Iowans to vote in upcoming elections. At Cedar Rapids PrideFest, NextGen will also collect LGBTQIA+ friendly books for donation and encourage people to write letters to LGBTQIA+ youth.

In 2018, NextGen Iowa registered 14,243 young voters, collected 21,668 pledges to vote, and knocked on 63,270 doors. Young Iowans flexed their progressive power by electing three Democrats to the US House of Representatives, including Iowa’s first female Representatives in the House. This year, NextGen Iowa remains committed to organizing young people on college campuses and in communities around elections, fighting to expand access to the ballot box, and advocating for progressive change.
