(ROCK ISLAND, IL) NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Initiative is pleased to present Sisterly Advice to BEAT Ovarian Cancer, translated into Spanish at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley located at 338 6th Street, Moline. The session will be held on Sunday, May 6th, 2018 at 2 p.m. This one- hour educational session is free of charge and open to the public. Men are welcome, free childcare will be provided and light refreshments will be served. Reservations are requested.

The program offers an opportunity for women to ask questions about symptoms, risk factors, diagnostic tests and genetic links to ovarian cancer. It inspires women to open a dialogue with their healthcare provider and take preventative measures which will give them an increased chance for long-term survival. Up to 80% of women have never talked to their healthcare provider about ovarian cancer. The current five-year survival rate is below 50%. However, if detected early, there is a 92% cure rate.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Hispanic community to learn about ovarian cancer and its genetic link to breast, prostate and other cancers,” said Jodie Kavensky, Founder/CEO of NormaLeah, who is the main presenter for the program. Each attendee walks away with life-saving information about ovarian cancer, symptom cards to distribute to family and friends, and the knowledge to advocate for their own health.

NormaLeah’s mission is to enrich lives through early detection education, survivor support services and research funding for ovarian cancer – the silent killer of women. NormaLeah is reducing the incidence and mortality rates of ovarian cancer by empowering all women – and those who love and care for them – to recognize the disease’s subtle symptoms, assess their personal/genetic risk, explore risk reduction strategies and seek proper medical attention for the best possible outcome.

Please reserve your seat by calling 309-794-0009 or emailing normaleah@normaleah.org. This program is made possible in part by the Rauch Family Foundation I and the Doris & Victor Day Foundation.
