BETTENDORF, IOWA (February 27, 2019) — A special election will be held for Bettendorf Third Ward Alderman as we mourn the passing of Debra LaMar. Four candidates are campaigning for the vacancy, however, the Quad City Federation of Labor views Bill Connors as the candidate to best serve the interests of working families on the Bettendorf City Council.

As a citizen of Bettendorf, Connors has already begun campaigning as you may have seen his yard signs placed around town. His desire to give back to the community will prove that working families are given a voice on the Bettendorf City Council. When asked why he wanted to run as Bettendorf Alderman, he replied that he loved the career of public service as he’s worked over 20 years for the City of Bettendorf as Chief Building Official. Even though cities are hurting, Connors view city employees as ambassadors to the city and would highly discourage outsourcing. Connors is also a public advocate to keep Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, IPERS, as a public pension rather than a 401(k). With his experience, Bill Connors will advocate fairly for the citizens of Bettendorf as he’s already shown through his employment with the City of Bettendorf.

The Quad City Federation of Labor goes through an endorsement process with candidate interviews. After reaching out to the four candidates, we believe that Bill Connors will instill policy decisions with effective spending priorities that will ensure working families in Bettendorf are represented on the city council.

The Special Election to fill the Third Ward Alderman will be Tuesday, March 5. The polling location for precinct B31 is the First Baptist Church, 3593 Middle Road, and the polling location for precinct B32 is the Bettendorf Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive. The Quad City Federation of Labor encourages all union members, affiliates, and allies to labor to vote for Bill Connors for Bettendorf Third Ward Alderman.
