DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 21, 2019) — The Quad City Federation of Labor is the source of political action for union members and allies in the Iowa counties of Scott, Muscatine, and Louisa. Due to the overwhelming nature of political agendas negatively effecting Iowa workers, it is necessary to endorse candidates running for local office.

The Quad City Federation of Labor is proud to endorse Mike Matson for Mayor of Davenport. Alderman Matson has supported working families of Scott County since he was elected to office in 2008. While his ward may have changed, he has continuously shown that he will fight for labor unions in the City of Davenport. As alderman, he has been endorsed by our Delegate Body in the past. Because of his relationship with the Quad City Federation of Labor and the Working Iowa Neighbors, WIN, Committee of Davenport, it only proves his willingness to give labor voices a seat at the table.

After 20 years with the Army, Matson has been a permanent resident in the City of Davenport. As a Veteran, retired Army Sergeant Major and Airborne Ranger, Mike Matson, who also served in Qatar and Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, now teaches the Army Junior Reserve Officers Training program. As a teacher, Matson is a member of the Davenport Education Association, DEA, and the Iowa State Education Association, ISEA. With his background, Matson understands the importance of collective bargaining for city employees, is supportive of Project Labor Agreements, and has a clear definition of “responsible” when awarding contracts to the “lowest responsible bidder”. While Matson has been a great advocate for the working class on the Davenport City Council, we believe he is the best candidate to serve as Mayor of Davenport.
