WASHINGTON DC (May 15, 2019) ― Representative Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the House passed HR5, the Equality Act, which would end discrimination against LGBTQ Americans. The bipartisan legislation now heads to the Senate for its consideration.

“It has been 10 years since the state of Iowa ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry, and nearly four years since the US Supreme Court ruled that all Americans have that same right, no matter who they love. Yet today, LGBTQ Americans can get married one day and be legally denied service at a restaurant, be fired from their jobs, or evicted from their apartment the next. We cannot allow this blatant discrimination to continue. I am pleased the Equality Act has passed the House and urge the Senate to do the same so that we can end discrimination and ensure LGBTQ Americans are guaranteed the full protections of federal civil-rights law.”
