WASHINGTON DC (June 26, 2020) Representative Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

“In my conversations with Iowans, one of the things I heard most often was the need for more accountability and transparency from law-enforcement agencies. We have seen how many of the practices currently in place disproportionately harm the Black community, and we must work to improve law-enforcement practices. As a cosponsor of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, I am pleased this bill sets up a comprehensive approach to improving accountability, transparency, and the training and best-practices employed by law-enforcement officers across the nation. Now that the House has passed its police-reform bill, the Senate must come together to work on a bill that can pass both chambers and be signed into law. We cannot let the momentum on this issue fade.”
