WASHINGTON DC (April 10, 2019) — Representative Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the House passed HR1644, the Save the Internet Act of 2019. The bill enacts three, widely-supported, bipartisan-principles of net-neutrality — no blocking, no throttling, and no paid-prioritization. Also included in the legislation is support for the Connect America Fund, which is used to help fund the expansion of broadband-infrastructure in rural areas. This bill was recently passed by the full Energy and Commerce Committee, which Rep Loebsack is a member.
“I am pleased the House has finally taken action to ensure Iowans have reliable internet service that isn’t unfairly blocked, slowed down, or degraded," Rep Loebsack said. "While I’m proud to support the Save the Internet Act, the issue most faced by Iowans in rural communities isn’t whether their service is being blocked or throttled, but whether there is reliable high-speed service, or any service, at all. As we continue to work to expand broadband-access in rural communities, the quality of that service is important, and net-neutrality principles have to be a part of the conversation. I encourage the Senate to bring up this important legislation to ensure Iowans, and consumers across the nation, have access to an open and free internet.”
