WASHINGTON DC (December 20, 2019) — Representative Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was passed by the House. It now goes to the Senate for its consideration.

“I am pleased that the House negotiated improvements to the United States Mexico and Canada Agreement and has now come together to pass the trade deal on a truly bipartisan vote. While this deal was being renegotiated, I fought to ensure Iowa’s workers, farmers and manufacturing companies were protected. In the end, the USMCA includes many positive provisions I supported, such as robust enforcement mechanisms, strong rights for workers, high standards for the environment, and preserving Congress’s power to improve access to affordable prescriptions. In light of the President’s Twitter Trade War, which has harmed farmers and manufactures, I am hopeful this agreement will finally provide them with the certainty they need and deserve. Now the Senate must act to pass this agreement and get it to the President’s desk for his signature.”
