WASHINGTON DC — Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement this evening in reaction to President trump’s State of the Union address. A photo of Dave and his guest, Jeff Chapman, a Battalion Chief with the Clinton Fire Department, can be found here.

“During tonight’s address, we heard President Trump talk a lot about putting people over politics, and I couldn’t agree more. But now, actions will have to speak louder than words. Over the past few years, our government has lurched from one manufactured crisis to the next, with Congress and the White House playing games and ratcheting up the rhetoric. This must end. Congress must find a way to get passed the gamesmanship and work together on behalf of all hardworking Iowans and Americans.

“Throughout my time in Congress, I have been willing to work with anyone, regardless of their political party, to move our state and nation forward. My first priority has been working together to improve our economy and create jobs here at home. Now that the needless shutdown has ended, there are multiple ways to achieve this, including investing in our nation’s crumbling infrastructure, expanding broadband to rural communities, ensuring Iowans have access to a quality education at all levels, among many others. Hardworking Iowans can no longer afford to be caught in the middle of these games.”
