with dictionaries presented to 3rd grade students. The Rock Island Elks Lodge #980 presented over 500 dictionaries to every third grade student to the Rock Island-Milan School District last week before intersession break. The organization has provided dictionaries to the school district every year which supports the Elks' service mission of enhancing education in the Rock Island-Milan School District. Organizers Rae Marie Jurmu, Dave Jurmu and Stephanie Anderson personally visited each of the schools to hand out the dictionaries to the students. "We believe it is important for students to have their own dictionary as they continually develop their language and reading skills," says Rae Marie Jurmu.

The students were very grateful for the Elks' generosity and many couldn't believe the books were for them to keep. The Elks came away from the experience with a great deal of satisfaction mostly from the outpouring of excitement and appreciation from the students.
