As Iowans come together to recognize the founding of our nation, we must also take time to remember the men and women who have fought for the freedoms we treasure. As a parent of two military children and a former member of the House Armed Services Committee, I know that our service members and their families have made great sacrifices and have courageously served our nation. I take great pride in serving those who served and strongly believe there is no greater responsibility we have as a nation than to ensure our servicemembers have the support, equipment, and training they need to safely carry out their mission and that we care for our veterans with the same dignity and honor with which they served. That is why for the past six years, I have made it a point to host a series of town halls on my Serving Those Who Served tour over the July Fourth holiday. This annual tour gives me the opportunity to meet with veterans and discuss the issues that are important to them. I am honored to be joined by local veterans service organizations, County Veterans Affairs Officers and other groups at these town halls to better assist veterans. My staff is also available at each stop to provide any assistance to folks dealing with the federal government. I am proud to stand ready to help Iowans who need assistance working with military services, the VA, or other agencies. At each town hall, I am deeply humbled to hear the stories and experiences that the veterans share. I work every day to ensure our servicemembers, veterans, and military families have the equipment, training, benefits, and support they need and deserve. I personally value the ideas and thoughts veterans have about how our country can best honor our commitment to serving those who have worn our nation’s uniform. That is why each year I look forward to hosting my Serving Those Who Served tour. I will continue to fight against proposals to reduce or eliminate essential benefits for those who have made great sacrifices on behalf of our nation. If you or someone in your family is a veteran and needs assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office. Thank you to all who have served and have a safe and happy July Fourth holiday! Sincerely,

Dave Loebsack
