Bringing Down the Butcher of Prague: The Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

Dr. Robinson Yost & Dr. Laura Yost, professors of history at Kirkwood Community College, present "Bringing Down the Butcher of Prague: The Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich", nearing the 76th anniversary of one of the most daring (and controversial) episode of WWII espionage- The killing of top Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich.

Examining the political and military context of this act of Czech resistance, code-names Operation Anthropoid, this presentation discusses the details of who planned it, approved it, who carried it out, and its consequences. The talk also highlights locations in Prague memorializing the men who sacrificed their lives, as well as how this dramatic story has been retold on film.

Life and Times of Martin Luther

Sunday, April 15 @ 2pm

A review of the life of Martin Luther with a focus on how a monk became the leading reformer of Christianity over 500 years ago. Helmut Welke will present on major historical events and settings with pictures of Reformation site on tours he leads.

A Culinary History of Iowa

Saturday, April 21 @ 2pm

What comes to mind when you think of Iowa food? Everyone has an Iowa food story, and Lake City, Iowa, author Darcy Dougherty Maulsby will bring these stories to life on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the German American Heritage Center in Davenport for a program and book signing starting at 2 p.m. 

German Language for Travelers

Thursdays in May, 4-5pm

Join the German American Heritage Center in this beginners course on the German Language. Perfect for travelers, learn how to communicate on subjects such as greetings, restaurants,food, banking, shopping, and geography.

This four week course on May 3, 10,17, and 24 will be taught by Nick Pitz, a retired Moline High School German teacher, from 4-5PM a the GAHC.

Cost is $40 for members, $45 for nonmembers.
