CORALVILLE, IOWA (September 9, 2024) — Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day is back this fall on October 9, and schools across Iowa are gearing up to participate in this exciting event promoting active transportation and healthier, more connected communities. Following the success of last May’s event, which saw over forty schools across Iowa take part, there is still plenty of time for more schools to join in.

This annual event, dedicated to promoting healthier, more sustainable communities, has seen a significant increase in participation this year. Schools across Iowa are gearing up to showcase the benefits of walking, biking, and rolling to school, including reduced traffic congestion and pollution, enhanced community connections, and improved health and well-being for students and families alike.

Whether you're a principal, teacher, parent, or volunteer, anyone can sign up a school and encourage students to walk, bike, or roll their way to school. This national initiative is a great way to build school spirit, promote healthy habits, and reduce traffic congestion, all while teaching students about sustainability.

"Participating is a great way to get families out of the car and start moving together, meeting other families, rebuilding a sense of community, all while getting a little exercise in," said Matt Burkey, Iowa Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.
