DES MOINES, IOWA (March 3, 2020) — Iowa’s high-school graduation-rate climbed to a record high of 91.6 percent in 2019, continuing a trend of long-term growth across nearly all groups of students, including those from diverse backgrounds, according to new data from the Iowa Department of Education.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March, 2020) — Gilda’s Club Quad Cities will host Frankly Speaking about Cancer: Treatments and Side Effects, a free workshop for people living with cancer and their loved ones. Designed to help people understand and manage the physical and psychological side effects of treatment, the two-hour workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 5:30-7:30PM, at Gilda’s Club Quad Cities — 1234 E River Drive. Dinner and doors open at 5:30PM; presentation starts at 6PM.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (March 2, 2020) — Living Proof Exhibit is a non-profit that provides the therapeutic benefits of the arts to cancer patients, survivors, families, and caregivers. The Muscatine Art Center and Living Proof Exhibit begin its partnership in 2017. The partnership has grown with the Muscatine Art Center hosting the fall 2019 juried exhibition, “A Visualization of Hope”, with the works of over 30 cancer survivors represented.

Writing at the Florida Politics blog, AG Gancarski reports on three sales-tax "holiday" bills working their way through the state's legislature. Two of the bills would lengthen existing holidays on school supplies and storm-preparedness products. The third would expand the holiday habit to hunting and fishing items. According to the Sales Tax Institute, at least 16 states have sales-tax holidays scheduled this year on goods ranging from clothing to school supplies to generators to guns.
