DES MOINES, IOWA (October 19, 2019) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment-rate remained at 2.5 percent in September. The state’s jobless rate was 2.4 percent one year ago. The US unemployment rate fell to 3.5 percent in September.

WASHINGTON DC (October 19, 2019) — At a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing, Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley, questioned Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Stephen Censky on the accuracy surrounding the department’s crop-reports. Sen Grassley has heard concerns from constituents around the state during his annual 99-county meetings relating to the accuracy and dependability of the USDA’s crop reports and data-collection tools.

WASHINGTON DC (October 19, 2019) — Legislation introduced by senators Charles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to protect whistleblowers who shine a light on unlawful anticompetitive activities passed unanimously in the Senate last night. The Criminal Antitrust Anti-Retaliation Act prohibits reprisal against private-sector employees who provide information to the Department of Justice regarding conduct that violates the criminal antitrust laws.

WASHINGTON DC (October 19, 2019) — On October 18, 2019, the Department of Agriculture published a proposed rule in the Federal Register to amend the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List) based on public input and the October 2018 recommendations from the National Organic Standards Board.

EAST MOLINE, ILLINOIS (October 19, 2019) — With the aid of many generous donors throughout the area, The East Moline Community Fund Advisory Council recently met to review and approve funding for 15 non-profit organizations in the community for 2019.
