I begin my remarks by paying my respect to our colleague and friend, Sen. John McCain.

A great American has died.

Sen. McCain represented the people of Arizona and the United States of America with great honor and always holding his ground and sticking with his principles.

Sen. McCain was tough and tenacious both as a 32-year member of the United States Senate and in the United States Navy.

Davenport, IA – On Aug 30th, approx. 100 Veterans, including 6 WWII veterans, will travel to Washington, D.C to visit the monuments dedicated to their service and sacrifice. This is the 10th Honor Flight of the Quad Cities that area Hy-Vee stores have sponsored.

On Wednesday, Aug 29th, Hy-Vee is hosting a pre-flight dinner for these veterans, a guest and their guardians.

Quad Cities, IA/IL — The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board of directors has promoted Zenaida Landeros as its Executive Director. Landeros is the first Latina to lead the Hispanic chamber, the only business advocacy organization in the Quad Cities dedicated specifically for the needs of the Hispanic business community.

Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded more than $32,000 in youth literacy grants to Iowa schools and nonprofit organizations.  The youth literacy grants will provide financial funding to teachers, libraries and literacy organizations to support a successful academic year throughout the 44 states that Dollar General serves.
