Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack announced today that a painting entitled “A Soldier’s Haunting” by Keokuk High School’s Kaylee Adams was selected to represent Iowa’s Second Congressional District in the 2018 Congressional Art Contest. The painting is from a photo that Kaylee's uncle took of himself while serving in Iraq. After returning home, he suffered from PTSD and took his own life. Kaylee made the painting for her father to honor her uncle.

The ceremony celebrates the induction of the student into the profession of teaching. Thirty-eight students from LAS College with majors in English, history, mathematics, music, earth science and world languages and cultures completed the program.

Upper Iowa University (UIU) alumnus and commencement speaker Marshall Richards shared this question, often posed to him throughout his life by his father, with graduates attending UIU's commencement ceremonies Saturday. The ceremonies, a morning and afternoon ceremony depending on the degree received were held at Harms-Eischeid Stadium under mostly sunny skies in Fayette, Iowa.

Lansing, MI — Patrick Sandoval and Enoli Paredes combined to shut out the Lansing Lunguts in a 2-0 win for the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.  With the victory, the River Bandits finished a six-game road trip to the state of Michigan undefeated.

DAVENPORT, IA – May 2018 –Gilda’s Club is hosting a FREE Cooking for One workshop for anyone who has lost a loved one due to cancer on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gilda’s Club (1234 East River Drive, Davenport, IA). It can be difficult to find the motivation to cook after the death of a loved one, especially when shifting from cooking from one to two.

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 26th annual national food drive on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the country's largest single-day food drive, provides residents with an easy way to donate food to those in need. The local goal is to collect 100,000 meals.
