Gordmans Funds Back-to-School Projects through Donation Campaign with DonorsChoose.org

A recent month-long giving campaign initiated by Gordmans through its partnership with DonorsChoose.org provided close to $50,000 in funding for classroom projects across Gordmans’ 59 store markets that participated in the back-to-school campaign. Through Gordmans’ gThanks program, store guests were given the opportunity to make a pin-pad donation at checkout during the back-to-school shopping season.

Conference on tree care for landowners

On Saturday, October 6 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., join Trees Forever, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service for a day of workshops at the Johnson County ISU Extension Office in Iowa City.

Loud Thunder Road closed due to construction on Lake George

A portion of Loud Thunder Road is closed due to the improvements being made on the spillway and dam on Lake George in Loud Thunder Forest Preserve.

The middle portion of Loud Thunder Road will be closed for the duration of construction, expected to be completed mid-December.

Appropriations Process Still Broken

By Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget

Congress has passed a minibus appropriations bill containing two of the 12 appropriations bills and a continuing resolution until December 7 covering any appropriations bills that have not yet been passed. The minibus now goes to the President for his signature. Last week, the President signed a separate minibus containing three of the 12 bills.

Turtle Island Quartet will be in residence Oct. 1-6 through this year’s Visiting Artist Series from Quad City Arts.

Winners of the 2006 and 2008 GRAMMY Awards for Best Classical Crossover category, Turtle Island is notable among string quartets for their unique focus on improvising and playing in jazz styles.
