Rock Island, IL: Families are invited to take a close-up view of the night sky on September 30 with a free viewing session from the Popular Astronomy Club at the Rock Island 30/31 Library.

The Quad Cities Popular Astronomy Club will set up high-powered telescopes and their Mobile Observatory on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the 30/31 Library parking lot, 3059 30th Street.

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Wednesday that no special session is needed for Fiscal Year 2017.

The expected shortfall for Iowa’s FY 2017 budget is $14.6 million. Gov. Reynolds will combine $13 million from the state’s economic emergency fund with the $1.6 million ending balance. This is the final action on the FY 2017 budget, which ended June 30, 2017. The state has $605 million in reserve funds after closing the FY 2017 books.

Iowa Republican Party Chairman - and former Iowa House Speaker Pro Tem - Jeff Kaufmann issued the following statement regarding the FY17 budget:
