This past weekend, Hurricane Harvey devastated Texans with flooding, high winds, and heavy rains. As many as 30,000 may be forced into shelters and 450,000 are likely to seek some form of disaster relief as more rain continues to fall.

SB 1933 establishes automatic voter registration program

CHICAGO (Aug. 28, 2017) – Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed SB 1933, which amends the Election Code to require that the Secretary of State and Board of Elections establish an automatic voter registration program.

The first game in the National Football League was played in Douglas Park almost 100 years ago. The City of Rock Island and the Friends of Douglas Park intend to refurbish the south end of the park to commemorate that event. This includes the restoration of the 1915 firehouse as a museum recognizing the first game and the commitment of Rock Island firefighters over the years.

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Senator Mike Lee of Utah are again inquiring about the abuse of an immigration law loophole that allows unauthorized immigrants to obtain a green card and, eventually, U.S. citizenship. The two senators previously wrote to the Obama administration on this issue in March 2016.

New law will help law enforcement focus on reducing crime

EGG-ON-A-STICK SETS STATE FAIR RECORD

Urbandale, Iowa (August 28, 2017) - Iowa's egg farmers celebrated another new record for eggs-on-a-stick at the recently completed Iowa State Fair.

A total of 162,576 eggs were handed out to fairgoers.  This breaks last year's record by almost 4,000 eggs!  This shows that egg-on-a-stick continues to be a fair favorite!
