AmeriCorps NCCC Team Helps Prepare Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois for the Summer

New Liberty, Iowa – An AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) team is serving with Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois (GSEIWI) at Camp Liberty from March 15 to April 28. The team is helping prepare for the influx of campers over the summer.

AMES, IA - The Iowa FFA Association and Meals from the Heartland are proud to announce that they will partner together to package 200,000 meals at the 89th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa on Sunday, April 9th and Monday, April 10th . 2017 marks the sixth year these two organizations have engaged in this partnership.

                A grants submission deadline has been announced by the East Moline Community Fund. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply if they serve the citizens of East Moline and the surrounding area.

                All materials necessary to receive funds are due in The Moline Foundation offices by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, or must be postmarked by or on Friday, April 28, 2017.

Quad Cities Comic Book Convention

The Quad Cities Comic Book Convention will be held on Saturday April 8 at the Ramada Inn in Bettendorf, IA. The Ramada Inn is located at 3020 Utica Rd (I-74 @ Kimberly Rd / Spruce Hills Dr, IA Exit 2). It will be open to the public from 10 AM to 4 PM and admission for the public is free.

Florida assisted living facility, Snapchat in news over abusive incident; Grassley seeks answers

WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley is seeking answers from a Florida assisted living facility in the news over criminal charges filed against an employee alleging she violated the privacy of two residents using Snapchat.  The case is the latest example of exploitive videos or photos involving elder care facilities on Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook.

Students Volunteer for Living Lands & Waters’ MillionTrees Project

North Scott 7th graders (240 students) are wrapping trees harvested by North Scott 8th graders last week at LL&W’s tree nursery in Davenport, IA. The 7th graders will be joined by many other volunteers over the course of the week to help LL&W prepare 110,000 trees for distribution this April across 16 states.

String trio to wrap up Visiting Artist Series season

Quad City Arts’ 2016-2017 Visiting Artist Series concludes with string trio Simply Three in residence for two weeks, beginning Monday, April 3.

Comprised of violinist Glen McDaniel, cellist Zack Clark, and bassist Nicholas Villalobos, Simply Three blends innovative arrangements of classical music with today’s popular songs.
