The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GQCHCC) will host its eighth Annual Gala on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Maria Hinojosa, award-winning journalist and founder of Futuro Media Group, will keynote the event with a presentation titled, "Latinx on the frontlines: The canaries in the mine of due process denials." 

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley made the following statement regarding the vote to return to historical precedent to confirm Supreme Court nominees by a simple majority vote margin after Senate Democrats performed the first successful partisan filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee in the history of the United States.

Rock Island, IL: Beginning at noon April 6, the Rock Island Public Library 30/31 Branch will be closed for electrical service repairs.

A recent power surge revealed a wiring issue. The Library Board opted to close the branch temporarily to allow electricians to properly evaluate the severity of the issue, and fix what is necessary without interruption. Repairs could take up to a week or longer, depending on the severity of issues found.

AVENPORT — Eight Quad Cities area professionals in the field of social justice will participate in a panel discussion on the influence of racial bias in policing practices and judicial outcomes from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, at St. Ambrose University.

Betty C. Andrews, president of the Iowa-Nebraska National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will moderate the discussion.
