Veterans from WWII and Korean Wars view monuments built in their honor

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dave Loebsack today welcomed the Quad Cities Honor Flight to the National World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington. Loebsack presented the members of the Honor Flight with copies of the Congressional Record statement he submitted in recognition of their service, as well as a pocket Constitution. The Quad Cities Honor Flight brings World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington to visit our nation's capital and Memorials built in their honor.

"I look forward to welcoming each Honor Flight to our nation's capital so they can see the memorials that were built in their honor. Being able to welcome these veterans today was especially meaningful," said Loebsack. "We cannot thank these veterans enough for their service to our nation. I was honored to present them with a copy of the statement I made for the official Congressional Record to recognize their service, as well as a pocket Constitution."

The Honor Flights are all fully paid for, and the veterans are typically accompanied by volunteers who donate their time to ensure that the veterans have a safe trip. This group included 92 veterans. The Quad Cities Honor Flight left from the Quad Cities Airport this morning and will return tonight.

Loebsack is an avid supporter of our veterans. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, he has worked to improve care and benefits for our servicemembers and veterans, including expanding Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits for the National Guard; expanding access to mental health care; helping our veterans find civilian jobs; and opening new Community Based Outpatient Clinics to improve access to VA services for Iowa veterans. He also co-introduced bipartisan legislation to eliminate the waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits for servicemembers wounded in combat.

LECLAIRE, Iowa - In addition to three hotels and a bed and breakfast, LeClaire has seen the emergence of guesthouses rounding out the lodging options. The first guesthouse was opened by Heidi and Robert Holst in 2010. The LeClaire River Loft at 114 N. Cody Road is a furnished vacation rental for two to four people in the heart of downtown LeClaire's shopping and dining district, and it has a river view. They offer "room service" from two of the restaurants across the street. A year later the LeClaire River Chateau at 402 N. Cody Road opened; it is a quaint three bedroom home overlooking the Mississippi River that sleeps up to nine people comfortably.

In October of 2013, The Shameless Chocoholic candy store opened at 200 Jones Street in a home that had formerly been a different business. The owners, Rebecca Burns and Jen Williams, decided to turn the upstairs of their building into a guesthouse and named it Sweet Dreams Guest House. It can accommodate up to four people.

The newest addition to the roster is Grasshopper's Guesthouse opened in April of this year and is located right across from Antique Archaeology, Home of the American Pickers. It is owned by Kim and Rodney Collier who also own Grasshopper's Gifts and Wine Cellar. The 1880 stucco guesthouse boasts a complete renovation with a huge deck facing the Mississippi River and sleeps six to eight guests. The main level can also be rented for celebrations such as a baby or bridal shower or a graduation party.

All of the guesthouses are fully furnished with every comfort you would find at home including WI-FI and cable TV. Three of them have laundry facilities and full kitchens. The attention to detail for optimal comfort and a relaxing getaway is evident at all the properties.

LeClaire, Iowa is located at a point where the Mississippi River makes a sharp bend to the southwest. LeClaire's historic bond with the river and the bold men who tamed the Upper Rapids is still visible in the homes and buildings they left behind. On May 7, 1979, their homes were recognized as part of the nine-block Cody Road Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. LeClaire's other attractions include the Buffalo Bill Museum/Lone Star Stern Wheeler, Mississippi River Distilling Co., and Antique Archaeology, home of the American Pickers.

The purpose of the symposium is to continue the public conversation about the critical role teacher and principal leadership will play as Iowans work to give students a world-class education.

"Iowa has many exceptional teachers, and the 2013 transformational education reform elevates the profession to a higher level by recognizing how teacher leadership can improve instruction to raise student achievement," said Branstad. "We look forward to learning from those who have started to experience the teacher leadership and compensation system as well as experts from outside Iowa who are steeped in this work."

"We want to ensure the Teacher Leadership and Compensation System is as successful as possible, and the symposium is one way to continue the dialogue and make certain our children are prepared to be competitive in a global, knowledge-based economy," added Reynolds.

Earlier this month, in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the release of her album Demi, Lovato launched a social media storm with her #DEMIVERSARY campaign. After a temporary black out of all her social networking sites, Demi's fans (the self-titled "Lovatics") quickly decoded the message of the #DEMIVERSARY, and caused numerous worldwide social media trends. The Demi album has yielded the hit singles "Heart Attack" and "Neon Lights" and sold over 5 million tracks globally.

The #DEMIVERSARY celebration has featured a host of new content. VEVO debuted video footage from Demi's Neon Lights Tour. Spotify offered a worldwide stream of five songs recorded in London last year and a video previously available only on Demi's iBook for her poignant ballad "In Case," which went live on VEVO. VEVO also debuted the lyric video for Demi's sassy, up-tempo new single, "Really Don't Care," that has already amassed nearly 4 million views.

In support of the #DEMIVERSARY and her new single, "Really Don't Care," Demi will be performing on Good Morning America on June 6 and appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on June 4.
