DES MOINES, IOWA (March 16, 2020) — Governor Kim Reynolds is proclaiming April as Keep Iowa Beautiful month. The proclamation will encourage all citizens to help plan and participate in local programs that will enhance the cleanliness and beauty of our communities and state. During the Statehouse ceremony Monday, March 23, 1:30PM, she will also be presenting the winners of KIB's annual awards program and three high school scholarships.

LENEXA, KANSAS (March 16, 2020) — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is releasing an expanded list of EPA-registered disinfectant products that have qualified for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The list contains nearly 200 additional products — including 40 new products that went through the agency’s expedited review process. The agency also made key enhancements to the web-based list to improve its usefulness.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 16, 2020) — Governor Kim Reynolds today announced assistance for workers and employers impacted by layoffs related to COVID-19.  The guidance includes information for employees filing for unemployment insurance claims, as well as information on programs available for employers.

WASHINGTON DC (March 16, 2020) — Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) today joined Sen Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and a bipartisan group of colleagues to introduce the Securing All Livestock Equitably (SALE) Act.

“In any industry, accountability is important. The SALE Act will make sure both livestock dealers and farmers are protected moving forward without negatively impacting their bottom line,” Sen Grassley said.

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains unchanged from the revised December rate of 2.8 percent. The state’s jobless rate was 2.7 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate increased slightly to 3.6 percent in January.

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (March 16, 2020) — The Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA) represents most of the state's more than 790 long-term care-providers, including nursing homes, assisted living communities, and home health-care agencies, and has been working closely with its members and state health officials to monitor novel coronavirus (COVID-19) developments in Iowa.

On March 12, the New York Federal Reserve announced a $1.5 trillion injection of money into the US financial system. Three days later, it cut its benchmark interest rate to zero and announced it would be buying at least $500 billion in government bonds and another $200 billion in mortgage securities.
