CANTON, MO (09/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Austin Pyrtle, freshman musical theatre major from Davenport, Iowa, has been cast in Culver-Stockton College's musical theatre production, "Urinetown." This 2001 comedy noir satirizes social systems of all types and finds them all wanting. Capitalism, social responsibility--even the very nature of freedom--all are called into question in the face of unintended consequences. Follow your dreams, the idealists urge--but be careful what you wish for. Pyrtle has been cast as Old Man Strong.
Performances run Thursday, October 2 through Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee on October 5 at 3 p.m. in the Mabee Black Box Theatre in the lower-level of the Performing Arts Center on the C-SC campus. Dr. Haidee Heaton, professor of theatre, directs this production with musical direction by Dr. Elliot Jones, professor of music.
This event is part of the College's Academic and Cultural Events programming, and is open to the public. "Urinetown" uses a full orchestra, and therefore requires a ticket fee of $8, with $6 for seniors and $5 for students.
