New Wind XI project will add 2,000 megawatts of wind generation in Iowa

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after MidAmerican Energy announced they will be building the largest wind energy project they have ever undertaken, Wind XI. It is anticipated that the $3.6 billion project will add an additional 2,000 megawatts of wind generation in Iowa. Loebsack helped lead the fight in Congress to extend the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for wind energy in order to give the wind industry and the thousands of jobs in Iowa that it supports, the stability and certainty it deserves.

“Iowa is already known as a leader in wind energy production, and today’s announcement by MidAmerican will only help strengthen Iowa’s leadership in the industry. I am pleased this investment will bring more jobs for our highly skilled workforce, as well as create additional homegrown and affordable energy sources. We must continue to do all we can to decrease our dependence on foreign oil, expand our use of renewable energy sources that boost economic development in our rural areas, and promote homegrown fuel sources such as biofuels and wind power.”
