Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement after the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) released a report stating that the wind production tax credit (PTC) and the solar investment tax credit (ITC) will drive a net increase of 48-53 gigawatts of energy from renewable sources by 2020 and also lower CO2 emissions.

“The study released by the NREL confirms what Iowans already knew to be true- when we invest in renewable energy, like solar and wind, we lower our dependence on foreign oil and also CO2 emissions. These investments not only help produce clean, homegrown energy, but they support thousands of jobs in Iowa alone. As a longtime champion of harnessing Iowa’s natural resources to create clean energy, whether that is with wind, solar or biofuels, I was proud to help champion the five year extension of both the ITC and PTC in the latest budget that was signed into law. I will continue to fight to ensure that Iowa’s rural communities are able to continue to move our nation on a sustainable path forward and that good jobs continue to grow in our rural areas.”
