Dear Friend,

As you may know, today is not only Mother’s Day, but also the start of National Women’s Health Week. This is a great reminder to honor our mothers and to think about women’s health and the effects it has on mothers and their entire families.

As a strong advocate for mothers and for women’s health, I am a proud cosponsor of the Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows Act (H.R.3235). This bill would expand resources for screenings and treatment of maternal and postpartum depression. We must take action to ensure that women have the necessary resources to fight postpartum depression, which still carries a stigma that keeps many new mothers from seeking help.

Additionally, National Women’s Health Week promotes awareness of measures all women can take to develop healthy habits, like going to check-ups and getting regular screenings. These measures can catch irregularities early, when they’re easiest to treat.  In fact, the two leading causes of death in women, heart disease and cancer, can be detected through simple, painless tests in a doctor’s office.

This week is about raising awareness and encouraging all of our wonderful mothers to be proactive about their health, so please feel free to forward this email to family and friends to spread the word.

Again, have a very happy and healthy Mother’s Day!

Sincerely,
Dave Loebsack
